Imagine seeing a 2-year-old wandering the streets alone. In the US, it wouldn’t be long before someone relocated him to a safe home. Sadly, in the province of Samaná in the Dominican Republic, that isn’t always the case, especially with this month’s child: Orlando.
Orlando’s Origins
Orlando, who was orphaned by his mother’s untimely death due to Lupus, was temporarily taken in by his mother’s close friend. Not long after, his new guardian returned home to Haiti, leaving Orlando alone for the first time. The 2-year-old had no family, didn’t know his last name, and had no shoes to protect his feet from the scorching sidewalks.
Shortly after, CONANI intervened, bringing the vulnerable child to our Children’s Home. Between our mission of always wanting to give children a new lease on life and following God’s will with selfless acts, we welcomed the sweet young boy with open arms.
When our other children started to offer their beds and share their toys, we felt proud of them. We knew our movement to bring these children closer to God was an ongoing success.
Today, Orlando is a sweet, gregarious and curious boy who loves to play outside with his friends in the children’s home. He feels loved, safe, and knows that he belongs with his Advocates of Love family.
How You Can Help Our Child Highlight: Orlando
At Advocates of Love, we provide for the physical and spiritual needs of children, like Orlando, through our Children’s Home and ministry. We’ve seen Orlando go from shy to outgoing and adventurous with our unconditional love and support.
However, our Christian organization needs your support to keep doing this important work. Help us keep these children off the streets of Samaná. Become a child sponsor for Orlando or another child at www.advocatesoflove.org or by emailing nancy@advocatesoflove.org.
