International children who grow up in difficult situations, especially those born into extreme poverty, face an uncertain future. The result is children suffering from abuse, hunger, discrimination, and a lack of continuing education.
Without the support of a loving family, many of these children have no choice but to be placed in institutions. Even here, though, the neglect often continues, with some children suffering such a high degree of trauma that they never recover.
As part of Advocates of Love’s Christian mission, we help these children secure a brighter future with trade and vocational training.
Meet Carlos. He was placed in our Children’s Home by the government agency, CONANI, removed from his home due to physical abuse and they were unable to find a family member to care for him. Carlos is blind in his left eye. Carlos is a born hugger and loves to give and receive affection. He is amiable, warm and friendly. He shows great enthusiasm in the activities he enjoys. Science experiments are his favorite. He likes to play basketball and baseball. He loves to draw and give his drawings away to others. He has a love for animals and enjoys being around them. Carlos is beginning classes to become a certified electrician in the beginning of 2022.
Daniel was placed in the children’s home by his aunt at age 8. Daniel has 4 other siblings. When his mother passed away from an illness, the children were split up because no one could care for all 5 children. During that time, we learned that Daniel and his older brother were forced to work on a coconut farm and therefore not attending school. Daniel’s aunt requested placement with Advocates of Love so that all 5 siblings could stay together and be properly cared for. Daniel is a kind, thoughtful and courteous boy. He has a calming nature and when you spend a few minutes with him you feel relaxed. He is always willing to help and lend a hand. He loves to draw pictures and is a natural artist. He enjoys being with family and friends as well as outings into nature and discovering new places. Daniel is beginning classes to become a certified electrician in the beginning of 2022.
Daniela was placed in the children’s home by her aunt at age 7. Daniela has 4 other siblings. When her mother passed away from an illness, the children were split up because no one could care for all 5 children. Daniela’s aunt requested placement with Advocates of Love so that all 5 siblings could stay together and be properly cared for. Daniela loves to smile and shares a love for fashion with her younger sister, Daneisy. She enjoys reading and going to school with her friends. She recently placed 5th place in her school’s reading contest. Daniela is a vibrant girl who is very affectionate and loving. Daniela is in a nursing program. We are helping her purchase uniforms and more supplies. She will begin practicing nursing in 2022 and we pray she will earn an internship at a nearby hospital.

Trade Training Initiatives for Older Children
In addition to the woodworking classes Advocates of Love offers, we have added new programs in trade training and continuous education to help older children prepare for the future.
Starting in January 2022, Carlos and Daniel, will attend our weekly vocational trade training program to become certified electricians. With these skills and support from Advocates of Love, Carlos and Daniel are building their own bright future once they age out of our program. They will be prepared to work and support themselves as electricians.
We also offer pre-nursing classes. Daniela, who is just 14 years old, attends Saturday classes where she learns the skills and trade of certified nurses. Our program prepares enrolled students like Daniela for reliable careers as registered nurses.
As more funding becomes available, we hope to increase the continuing education and trade training options available for all of our older children, giving them more opportunities and skills for a brighter future.
