5 Verses to Pray Over the Child You Sponsor
Praying for the child you sponsor is a touching way to share love and encouragement, even when you are thousands of miles away. Saying a prayer as you sponsor a child is one of the greatest activities you can do to stay involved in their lives. Here are a few verses that can make your prayer time more intimate and sincere when thinking about your child in Samaná.
1 Corinthians 13
Love
“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.” (ESV)
Ask God to fill your child with His love, so they will know deep care and a sense of belonging. Pray that your child’s love will spread to others their whole lives.
Psalm 91:1-2
Protection
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” (ESV)
Pray that your child is protected under God’s wings and kept out of harm’s way. Ask that your child will find refuge in the Lord.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Direction
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” (ESV)
Ask for God to lead the child as they face hard decisions or situations. Pray for your child to trust their God-given path and look for opportunities to follow Him.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Gratitude
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (ESV)
Pray that the child and his or her carers will keep this frame of mind, remembering to thank God for everything He has done throughout their lives. Pray for your child to be full of gratitude, even during difficult moments. Let them know that God’s love endures, even through the worst times.
Jeremiah 29:11
Hope
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (ESV)
The final verse is a reminder to stay patient and focused, an excellent blessing to pray over someone as you sponsor a child. Pray that they stay hopeful, knowing that God has a plan for them and that He will fulfill it by His own power.
